A Reminder To Do What You Love

You are an entrepreneur, you should love what you do daily.

Hey Entrepreneurs,

As an entrepreneur, we have to be reminded that we are doing this because we love what we do. What does that mean? We pursued this career in entrepreneurialism not only because we wanted to be our own bosses, set our own schedules, and make money, but because we had a passion which led us to start a business. For me ever since I was a child, I’ve loved art and being creative, solving puzzles(problems), and designing things. In the past few years of me freelancing and starting a business, I found that I had lost my passion. Design and creativity had become a tedious task that was, at times, a burden. I wasn’t creating for fun anymore, and I was always working. It took me going back to school to see the beauty in doing passion projects and setting aside a few hours a day to work on projects. So, remember your passion, remember to take time away from business (because as entrepreneurs we suck at that), remember to enjoy.

Things to keep in mind:

  1. It’s easy to get burned out, even if you are doing what you love. That burnout is there to show you that there’s a better way. Such as managing your time better, getting sufficient sleep, creating a better process, or setting boundaries for clients.
  2. Do not force yourself into a mold. What I mean is, be you! There are a ton of people out there that will tell you how to be, but you have to be you. Genuineness goes a long way in the eyes of an audience.
  3.  There is a time and a place for everything. Allocate your time and stick to it.

I’d like to know:

Do you love what you do?

Have you ever had a project that you weren’t passionate about? What made you disinterested about it?

Hi Entrepreneurs share this with everyone!

As a new business owner, I knew that the learning curve would be huge. I also knew that this was my passion, and I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. Making the decision to move forward with a business was tough and it challenged me in every way possible. Don’t be mistaken it is still challenging me… but once I made to decision to go after my business there was no turning back. I started on my business plan, set goals, and wrote out the vision for the business. One of my biggest challenges was fear.

Fear will indeed hold you back from every good thing if you allow it. There’s a good fear that keeps you from making a terrible decision and then there’s a fear that comes and hinders you from making life-changing decisions. You can feel the difference. I felt the difference, I heard the difference. “What if you fail?” “How are you going to do it? You have no experience.” “You still need to learn more.” “You can’t do this!” I found myself agreeing with the negativity. But, that wasn’t going to stop me. I had to just jump in and push forward. I knew then what I know now, that Translucent Design is my future.

I don’t want to tell you my whole life story so I’ll stop there… But, you may be able to get more out of me by commenting and sharing.  How did you decide to start your business? What stopped you? Did fear hit you when you started? Have you been in the planning stage for years? I’d like to hear from you.
